What Is A Heritage Window Style?

What Is A Heritage Window Style?

Any window style that’s advertised as a heritage design needs to have been designed to mimic a traditional timber window, built so that it abides by old-style crafting methods, and be stylistically accurate in every way.

If it manages that, then it will be a feasible window replacement for old windows at late 19th and early 20th century homes, and even listed buildings and properties within conservation areas, as it will have the relevant character to sustain the original aesthetics of such residences.

Planners regularly approve the use of heritage windows for window upgrades at historically important homes, more so than they do when other replacement window systems are proposed by renovators.

Classic designs with contemporary touches

In many ways, a heritage window is very similar to a period timber window, such as having matching proportions and a wood-like finish. However, it’s dissimilar in other ways.

Because the product is manufactured using either UPVC or aluminium, it makes a heritage window much stronger and energy efficient and it doesn’t lose any of its strength or insulating qualities, like a wooden window does, a few years on from being installed.

It can also be double or triple glazed, rather than having just a single glass pane.

Two leading heritage styles

One of the most popular heritage window styles is the flush sash window as flush designs were all the rage back in the day – use of the word ‘flush’ indicates that a window has sashes that close into the frame to create a flat finish.

Another option is our cottage windows, which come with striking Georgian bars, a detailing that was commonplace on windows during the Georgian era.

Normally added in between the glass panes, Georgian bars can either run horizontally or vertically, like they would in authentic period windows, separating the window into small sections.

Getting more popular by the day

The level of demand for heritage windows has never been so big as householders look towards them to either reinstate a classic aesthetic at their home or give it a vintage-like appearance.

You’re not restricted to only having them installed into old country cottages or listed buildings, certainly not! Heritage windows can nicely integrate into modern properties too, so believable are they as a timber-alternative window.
