TradeMark’s Tips On Giving Your Home A Lift With Colour
Very steadily, our homes are starting to receive more natural light as we head towards the spring and look forward to the clocks going forward.
The light from the sun enriches living spaces, but it’s still in quite short supply at the moment. To make up for that, all you need to do is implement some colour to establish a warm feel.

Bright windows & doors
Don’t underestimate the power of colour. Certain colours can switch our mood, create the illusion of space in rooms and help you make a bold statement.
Livening up a living room with colour only needs the installation of brightly-coloured windows and doors, or you could just add a new window treatment – maybe some patterned curtains or custom roller blinds, or perhaps both?
You want a warm colour, so that means avoiding white. A red hue, like Mahogany, has the necessary depth of warmth required as we continue the countdown to spring and more pleasant weather.
Bright paint
Are you handy with a paintbrush? You don’t need to be too skilled to repaint household items such as a worn TV stand, ageing cabinet or feature wall, doing so with a colour that’s nothing like cream, magnolia or ivory.
What you don’t want is any colour clashes or colours that are too brash – pairing a sky-blue sofa with a dazzling yellow background is unlikely to come off.
Have a proper look at the full colour wheel so that you can identify any colours that will match well together. A good tip is to pick colours that are adjacent to one another. Colours adjacent to blue, green and cyan should complement nicely.
Bright accessories
If you’re in two minds about a certain new colour scheme, you could always implement it through the use of soft furnishings e.g. cushions, rugs and blankets.
At least then if you don’t like it, it won’t take much or cost much to switch to a different scheme, which won’t be the case if you have a full-scale colour makeover.
