Home Protection Advice For National Home Security Month

Home Protection Advice For National Home Security Month

There’s a direct correlation between autumn arriving and burglaries rising in numbers – under the earlier blanket of darkness, thieves view it as a golden opportunity to break into houses and not get caught out.

Research would indicate that homeowners are prepared for this following a survey held by ADT, experts in security, which revealed that 76.5% of British residents are more conscious of home security in autumn. Not prepared enough though it would seem going by current burglary rates.

You can find out what burglary rates are like in your neighbourhood via the National Home Security Month website, a scheme held every October since 2013.

If the burglary stats returned by its postcode checker make for worrying reading, rely on our window, door, and living space products to firmly shield your property against theft.

Doors

A burglar’s first instinct will be to try and get into a house through a door – the ONS reports that 76% of domestic burglaries in England and Wales occur this way.

They may try and snap a lock to open a door, a very common tactic. Do a check of your door cylinders using a £1 coin – if they protrude more than the depth of the coin, they could easily snap.

Forté composite doors from TradeMark are up there with the strongest available doors, possessing high-security multi point locks, hinges with anti-crowbar technology, and various other secure facets.

Windows

The breaking of a window also accounts for 30% of burglaries (source: ONS).

It can see a chisel, bar, or screwdriver used to try and lever a window open, or a thief may see if they can force out the window unit. There’s no hope of either strategy working when you choose our Extreme UPVC windows as a replacement window upgrade.

They have extreme locking in the form of a 9-point locking system and two high compression hinge bolts, herculean hinge, and a highly engineered frame – this all adds up to 3 times more protection than standard windows. TradeMark’s Eclipse aluminium windows are just as security-focused in their design.

Living Spaces

An extension of some kind (conservatory or orangery) is a further possible passage to your possessions – if you haven’t already, extend your burglar alarm coverage to detect an attack on any extension you have.

It no doubt helps if the extension is constructed by a company with a prominent background in extension building, like TradeMark.

The window and door solutions integrated into all our extension designs have the most robust frames, security mechanisms, and accessories, to keep you and your belongings safe inside.
