A UPVC Door Or A Composite Door: Which Is Better For Your Home?

A UPVC Door Or A Composite Door: Which Is Better For Your Home?

Your front door can have a big effect on how others perceive your home, whether you like it or not.

Not only from a visual standpoint, your front door plays many important roles, including keeping your home safe and secure.

If you’ve had your door for some time and it is letting you down visually and performance wise, you may need to consider replacing it. Most homeowners will come across UPVC and composite doors in their quest for the perfect door and we’re here to help you decide between the two.

We expect you’re familiar with UPVC doors, a commonly seen door with an insulated steel frame wrapped in un-plasticised polyvinyl chloride, but you may be less familiar with composite doors.

What is a composite door?

A composite door is made up of several different materials, including wood, UPVC, foam and a GRP skin, which stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic.

This combination of materials adds to the door’s strength, robustness and thermal efficiency, making TradeMark’s composite doors one of the best on the market.

The GRP skin creates an authentic timber look due to our perfected wood grain effect. While our composite doors have captured the beauty of timber, in reality, it outperforms a timber door in weather resistance and durability.

The different components of a composite door

How does a composite door differ from a UPVC door?

In stark contrast to the construction of a composite door, a UPVC is solely made from one material – plastic. Furthermore, measuring around 44mm, compared with 28mm for a UPVC door, a composite door has a bigger depth and thicker frame.

With this in mind, and the fact that composite doors are made of more materials, they cost more.

Despite the price difference between the two, a UPVC door is not a lesser product. You’ll still benefit from exceptional security features and fantastic energy efficiency.

Will it be difficult to keep my composite or UPVC door clean?

Fortunately, TradeMark’s UPVC and composite doors are extremely simple to clean.
Every four months, use a bucket full of warm soapy water to clean the frame surfaces. Take care to avoid solvent based cleaners and abrasive materials.

Annually, lubricate the locks and hinges, and where necessary, the handles and other bits of door furniture.

When the weather is particularly bad, we suggest you examine your front and back door’s threshold and drainage holes for any problems with debris.
