Towards the end of last year, Wokingham & Emmbrook FC donated some of their kits to Kit Aid, a charity setup to provide football kits to the children of developing countries.

The above photo was taken at a sports academy run by Fabiano A DeSouza (man in the pink shirt) in Callingute, Goa, India.

The children train most evenings during the week from 4 till 6 and then play their matches at the weekend.

KitAid is a charity set up by one of the employees of Veolia Water Central, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he wearing his favourite football shirt (Watford, Chesham Utd, Liverpool FC to name a few).

After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Ten years on, KitAid has Graham Taylor OBE as its Patron, lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 100,000 kits to children and adults in 30 different countries across the world.

In working in some of the most under-privileged countries around the world, The Football Association is no stranger to seeing the impact the donation of something as simple as a shirt or a pair of shorts can make. KitAid has brought an enormous amount of pleasure and enjoyment to young and old alike through the gift of football kit, and has shared the spirit of British clubs and the England team with communities in all corners of the globe. We are proud to be associated with KitAid and wish them all the best in their endeavours for the years to come.

- Jane Bateman, Head of International Relations, The Football Association

I’m immensely proud to be KitAid’s Patron. Not only has the organisation gone from strength to strength over the last decade, the willingness of football clubs at all levels to have kit collection days, shows that football as a whole does indeed have a caring side. To see the photographs – of children in particular – from some of the poorest countries in the world, receiving and wearing the kit that has been sent to them is just reward indeed for the fabulous work that KitAid does. Long may it continue! Many thanks to all those individuals, clubs and partners who not only donate kit, but help make sure we get them to the right destinations.” KitAid Annual Review – 2009 – “Excellent, a really good read and proud to be Patron

Regatta For The Disabled 2010

Building for the Future is proud to announce it’s role in the creation, development and delivery of the first ever annual Regatta for the Disabled Henley.

Taking place on September 4th at Phyllis Court Club Henley the event was open to all ages and all abilities. The ethos of the day was for everyone – regardless of disability – to enjoy time on the water.

Young children and other wheelchair users set sail on a specially adapted Rivertime Trust Boat; keen rowers were assisted into catacanoes and 14 teams of 11 corporate and celebrity rowers raced along the Thames in dramatic Dragon Boats.

In the grounds of Phyllis Court Club there was food, music, a bouncy castle, a Punch and Judy show and other entertainment.

This was a high profile regatta event with three Patrons: actor David Suchet, President and Founder of Upper Thames Rowing Club Peter Sutherland and Paralympic and World Champion Rower Helene Raynsford. The Regatta was sponsored by Michael Shanly Charitable Trust and The Drapers Company.

Brighten Up Your Office

TradeMark Windows & Conservatories is the proud sponsor of a new creative initiative that aims to both brighten up your workplace and honour the efforts of young local artists. Art into Industry is a new venture, launched by Ranelagh School in Bracknell.

The initiative is set to be launched with a viewing at the TradeMark showroom in Wokingham on Thursday 24 May – an event that is sure to convince you to refresh the magnolia walls of your workplace by introducing the artwork of the talented students at Ranelagh.

All representatives of the local business community are welcome at the launch and can enjoy wine and canapés, whilst perusing the art. All works on display will be available for hire and, with prices as low as £1 per week, giving your office space a new lease of life is very affordable.

Mark Ashwell, managing director of TradeMark explained the thinking behind the scheme:

“It’s great to give our youngsters the encouragement to go ahead and do what they are good at and what better way to show your support for the local community than giving these young artists a platform. Plus, you get the added bonus of sharing in the delightful artwork.”

The standard of the pieces is excellent – Ranelagh is a school with visual arts status – and demanded is expected to high. So, please come along to the launch at TradeMark, Fishponds Road, Wokingham at 6pm on Thursday 24 May.

All proceeds made through Art into Industry will go directly to Ranelagh School.
